My printout is covered in a bunch of weird symbols, how do I fix this?

If this happens, it is likely that you are using an outdated print driver. Instructions for how to update your print driver are given below for Windows and Mac.

Windows

Go to your printer’s manufacturer’s website, type in the model of your printer and download the newest version of the print driver, then run the install wizard. Once it has been installed, hit the Windows button, type in print and select “Printers & scanners”. Select your printer, click on “Manage”, then “Printer Properties” and select the “Advanced” tab. Once there you will see your current print driver, change it to the one you just downloaded, hit “Save” or “Apply” and print a test page to see if that has fixed the issue.

Mac

While connected to the same network as the printer, click on the Apple icon, then “System Preferences” and “Software Update”. Then select the printer and click on “Update”. If that didn’t work, go to your printer’s manufacturer’s website, type in the model of your printer and download the newest version of the print driver, then run the install wizard. Once it has been installed, print a test page to see if that has fixed the issue.
